One might ask, "HOW can trying to be Perfect be a BAD thing?"
That's a good question, and one of which I am often asked.
However, new research on the subject shows an immense correlation
and overwhelming stress, anxiety, and depression.
According to the Webster Dictionary, Perfection is described as:
A REFUSAL to accept any situation which is less than perfect!
and... there in lies the answer.
If our brains are unable to accept anything less than perfection (which RARELY if ever comes) .... then we have just sent a signal to our brain, and our body chemicals, that WE ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH! Research around the world will confirm that continual feelings such as this are one of the leading causes of CHRONIC STRESS!
The research data on Perfectionism
did not even begin to build until the early 90's,
yet study after study has shown it has
devastatingly destructive consequences to our health
as well as leading the charge in debilitating anxiety and depression.
And, if that isn't bad enough, according to
a Journal by The American Psychological Association,
50% of SUICIDE victims family and friends
describe them as PERFECTIONISTS.
