With my GRADUATION only 64 days away and my son's WEDDING only 73 days away, I have been so caught up in the MILLION things that have "got to be done" ... that I forgot to stop and enjoy the process! Never again will I have these moments to "GET TO" help plan his WEDDING, and never again will I "GET TO" finish a degree that I pushed myself to go back to school at 50 to receive......
So.... I took a few moments this morning to just sit in my chair with my cup of coffee and look at this "frenzy to FINISH" list as something to cherish rather than something to panic over. Literally within minutes I was overwhelmed at how a change in perspective created a flood of things I have to hold dear
during these final days, instead of the pity party I was rounding up in my mind......
OMG.....This WAS what I'd spent the last 2 years researching,
and today I saw it more clearly than ever.
The Brain is a very powerful thing.....
and if you don't TALK to it, then it will always TALK TO YOU!
It's so easy to get caught up in the busy, frenzy, drama of life. Our brains are wired to focus on the negative to help protect us. BUT.... when you feel yourself being caught in the net of anxious thoughts... STOP them and
take a moment to change your perspective!
So... as I was working on my final research data before graduation, I stumbled upon a concept called 365 gratitude. Apparently it's been around for a while, but I'd never seen it before. It is so SIMPLE, yet so GENIUS!
The girl who started it decided she was going to change her life through GRATITUDE by finding at least 1 new thing each day for an entire year (hence the name 365 days) to be grateful for and photograph it!
It requires no degree, no fancy equipment, no paper, and less than 10 minutes of time. All you need is a phone that takes photos..... and WOW what it does for the brain is incredible. A simple shift in perspective to FOCUS on what you HAVE rather than what you LACK is baffling, even for the most complicated of data analysis. Surely something that works with such a high degree of success should be more difficult. But.... it isn't.
Link to her 3 minute video explaining the 365 project is below.
I put down my research papers and took a few minutes to
pause my anxiety list & begin my own "Day of Gratitude" project.
I love heart rocks, thanks to my friend Sherry, who taught me to look for them about 20 years ago. It has now become an obsession. I look for them on every vacation,
at every place I go, and have even taken a few that
may or may not have been allowed to be removed. haha
I always feel like they are a secret little whisper from the Universe that says
"I am sending you LOVE". I have them all over my house and smile every time I walk past one, knowing I took the time to hear the WHISPER !
So... I put on my shoes and went OUTSIDE.
It didn't take long, and I was finding hearts everywhere.
OMG..... within a matter of minutes, I was no longer frantic about
"getting things done" and totally focused on taking 20 minutes to STOP and realize that I have eyes that see, ears that hear, and legs that are able to freely walk me around outside. My skin felt the chilly breeze on my face, and my dogs were wanting nothing more than for me to be outside with them, and all that was required of me.... WAS TO SEE IT!
I decided that for the next 10 days I was going to follow the lead from
365 gratitude and be posting my own daily reflections of everyday life for
which I am grateful. AND.... I got approval to add this to my final research!
So..... if any of you guys would like to be a part of
a ten day online GRATITUDE journaling project that will require only
10 minutes of your day, I'd love for you to join me...
I will be doing a practice project
Right HERE on this BLOG for the next 10 days, and we will
