When George Lucas first came up with the concept of "The Force" in 1977
it is widely noted that he envisioned it would be something that
gave people a UNIVERSAL feeling of POWER, as it should....
The problem for many folks is that they think "THE FORCE"
is something that lies OUTSIDE of themselves,
leaving them feeling HELPLESS
Thinking They Don't Have IT!
However.... Many Neuroscientists will tell you
that there REALLY is a FORCE,
but..... "The Force" is actually your Mind
particularly, its ability to VISUALIZE
and YES... IT IS WITH YOU
at all times (for good and for bad) !
In fact, recent studies on the POWER of the HUMAN MIND
have shown some fascinating results on the TRUTH behind
"THE FORCE" of Visualization!
When I was in Grad School I read a research study on the power of visualization by Australian Psychologist, Alan Richards where a group of basketball players were divided
into 3 groups over a 20 day period.
Group 1: Practiced shooting actual FREE Throws for 2o minutes each day.
Group 2: (Control Group) Did NOTHING in regards to FREE Throws each day.
Group 3: Practiced ONLY VISUALIZING shooting FREE Throws for 2o minutes daily.
At the END of the Study.... the groups were tested on their level of IMPROVEMENT from their PRE-test FREE Throw accuracy to their POST-test FREE Throw accuracy.
The RESULTS were AMAZING!
The VISUALIZATION Group was only 1 percentage point behind those who actually practiced shooting FREE Throws every single day for 20 consecutive days with the Shooters improving 24% and the Visualizers improving 23%.
Another Research study on Visualization/Perception
came from Harvard Psychologist, Ellen Langer
where she took a large group of hotel maids
(many of which were slightly overweight) to see if THOUGHTS matter.
After the maids had been through extensive physical testing
for blood pressure, stress levels, vitamin intake, etc.
they were asked this question:
Do you think you get the recommended amount of physical exercise daily?
A resounding number of them said NO... in fact, 67% said they didn't.
The maids were then divided into 2 separate groups.
Group 1 was given a lecture about how much exercise
they were actually getting during the course of their day
and were carefully shown what type of exercises
they really do to workout their muscles
as well as exactly how many calories each activity was burning. .
Group 2 was told nothing other than to carry on with their normal activities.
At the end of the month long study, the team repeated all the testing
and took physical measurements of each of the maids.
The results were astounding for only a 1 month study.
Group 1: who had LEARNED... about"THE FORCE"
of their exercise, showed improvements in
their blood pressure with a 10% drop.
They also LOST weight and inches!
THE FORCE was with them all the time, but until they KNEW IT, nothing happened!
So, today as you do all the things you do to make LIFE work...
Use THE FORCE of visualization to build your life
rather than WORRYING,
which is really VISUALIZING all that MIGHT NOT work
and tearing your life apart brick by brick.
And remember... if there is 1 person
who has ever accomplished YOUR DREAM,
then there can be 2.... You be that person!
